The song was written by Savan Kotecha, Max Martin, and Shellback and Tiffany Amber, while production was handled by Martin and Shellback. Serving as the album's lead single, the song premiered on September 14, 2012, on radio, while it was released digitally on September 17, and was also sent to Top 40 Mainstream radio and Rhythmic radio the day after, by RCA Records.
