The Buzz: What might Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
look and feel like if it were directed by someone other than Robert
Rodriguez? That's one way we're looking at this prequel
, which finds Noam Murro in the director's chair and Zack Snyder in producer mode. Though the leads actors are mostly unknown in the States (aside from Eva Green, obviously), let's remember that neither Gerard Butler nor Zack Snyder were household names when King Leonidas starred in the visual tour de force that was 300.

The Buzz: With Byung-hun Lee
joining Bruce Willis for the sequel to the unexpected blockbuster, Red
2 feels a bit like a more-fun version of the upcoming G.I. Joe
movie. We will miss Morgan Freeman (whose characters normally never
die), but welcome Anthony Hopkins to what could be the truest definition
of a popcorn movie.

The Smurfs team up with their human friends to rescue Smurfette, who has

The Buzz: A Parisian setting, a
kidnapped Smurfette, her feelings of isolation, and secrets spells that
can turn sorcery-created beings intro Smurfs? This is so European
sounding, and a shrewd way to boost this sequel's overseas earnings.

Thriller
Set in the year 2159, where the very wealthy live on a man-made space
station while the rest of the population resides on a ruined Earth, a

worlds.
Director:Neill Blomkamp |

The Buzz: With its A-list cast,
rumored alien-planet setting, and layers of secrecy, Neill Blomkamp's
follow-up to District 9
is this year's Prometheus.
We're the Millers (2013)
Comedy
A veteran pot dealer creates a fake family as part of his plan to move a
huge shipment of weed into the U.S. from Mexico.
Director:Rawson Marshall Thurber |

The Buzz: Remember Rawson
Marshall Thurber - the guy who made a blockbuster out of a comedy about
dodgeball? Well, he's finally back in the major-movie spotlight with a
long-gestating pot-themed comedy that has seen directors and stars come
and
go like it was TV pilot season. Exactly what kind of shape the script is in at this point is unknown - many hands have touched it -- but I'm hoping the cast, which includes SNL's Jason Sudeikis, Jennifer Aniston, Emma Roberts, Ed Helms, and Nick Offerman, was encouraged to improvise. And, hey, if this movie manages to underwhelm, couldn't you get pretty much all of these people to star in the same TV show?

Thriller
A DEA agent and an undercover Naval Intelligence officer who have been
tasked with investigating one another find they have been set up by the
mob -- the very organization the two men believe they have been stealing
money from.
Director:Baltasar Kormákur |
|

The Buzz: This project was
originally conceived as an action/comedy set to reteam Owen Wilson and
Vince Vaughn after Wedding
Crashers, but now it's being handled by Icelandic director Baltasar
Kormákur, who reunites with Mark Wahlberg in the wake of Contraband's breakout
success. And we think the laughs have been jettisoned as well in favor
of a straight-up action/thriller.

In order to restore their dying safe haven, the son of Poseidon and his

The Buzz: Part two of this
trilogy based on the novels by Rick Riordan finds director Thor
Freudenthal, who got Fox's other kid-franchise, Diary of a Wimpy Kid,
off the ground, subbing in for Chris Columbus. All of the main young
demigods are back, with a scaled-back (and therefore less expensive)
adult supporting cast featuring Anthony Head as Chrion, replacing Pierce
Brosnan.
The To Do List (2013)
Comedy
Feeling pressured to become more sexually experienced before she goes to
college, Brandy Clark makes a list of things to accomplish before
hitting campus in the fall.
Director:Maggie Carey |

The Buzz: Pitch Perfect and Easy A are the most
recent, most successful high-school comedies, and we hope Aubrey Plaza's
first leading-lady appearance meet that standard while delivering huge
laughs, awkward moments, and creative uses of profanities. Maggie Carey,
one of the people from Funny
or Die Presents... directs from her own screenplay.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013)

Romance
When her mom is attacked and taken from their home in New York City by a
demon, a seemingly ordinary teenage girl, Clary Fray, finds out truths
about her past and bloodline on her quest to get her back, that changes
her entire life.
Director:Harald Zwart |
|
Watch Trailer Add to Watchlist |
The Buzz: Cassandra Clare's
six-novel Mortal Instruments series seems to possess enough dark
magic, secret family histories, and love-triangle dynamics to please
fans of both Harry Potter and Twilight, and casting Lily
Collins as Clary Fray seems like a wise move in the post-Bella Swan era.
Sony is looking to build a franchise, and it's ultimately not
surprising to see Harald Zwart, who helped turn The Karate Kid into an
over-performing worldwide hit, in the director's chair. If the initial
formula works, look for this story to get even cooler as it progresses.
You're Next (2011)

Thriller
When the Davison family comes under attack during their wedding
anniversary getaway, the gang of mysterious killers soon learns that one
of victims harbors a secret talent for fighting back.
Director:Adam Wingard |

Add to Watchlist |
The Buzz: Adam Wingard belongs
to the current wave of indie horror filmmakers who dominate the film
festival circuit while distributors are figuring out the best way to get
the most people to see movies such as V/H/S . You're Next,
which Wingard made with his writing/producing partner Simon Barrett before the
craze went industry-wide, reunites the principal cast from their
serial-killer shocker A
Horrible Way to Die.

Thriller
A continuation of the 2010 horror hit about the fate of the Lambert
family and their haunted house.
Director:James Wan |
|
Add to Watchlist |
The Buzz: Fans of the original
are wondering just how Patrick Wilson will figure into chapter two of
the horror hit; without giving too much away, Wilson's character didn't
pass away, but he's not really Josh Lambert anymore, either ...
Untitled One Direction Documentary (2013)
Documentary
|
Music
An all-access pass to the British pop sensation One Direction live in
concert.
Director:Morgan Spurlock |
|
Add to Watchlist |
The Buzz: Justin Bieber's
pop-star days are probably numbered now that the attention once solely
reserved for him has been refocused on this British boy band that was
assembled in 2010 by Simon Cowell as he was prepping a new season of "X
Factor". But Biebs will always have the superlative documentary in my
mind because I know some sarcastic dudes who were reduced to tears by Never Say Never.
Meanwhile, people who exist in indie-film circles, are a-gog due to the
fact that Morgan Spurlock
is directing.
Closed Circuit (2013)
Thriller
Martin and Claudia are lawyers -- and ex-lovers -- who find themselves
put at risk after they join the defense team for an international
terrorist's trial.
Director:John Crowley |
|
Add to Watchlist |
The Buzz: Pretty much anyone
who has been aware of this project's existence has cited the presence of
Eastern Promises
screenwriter Steve Knight as the main reason to see the film. We're
excited for his return to the thriller genre as well as the imaginable
chemistry between Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall, two fine actors with
unfortunately inconsistent filmographies. And if you have yet to see
director John Crowley's Boy
A, I suggest seeking it out.
Random (2013)
Horror
When a college girl who is alone on campus over the Thanksgiving break
is targeted by a group of outcasts, she must conquer her deepest fears
to outwit them and fight back.
Director:Oliver Blackburn |
|
Add to Watchlist |
The Buzz: We hear Rosemary's Baby is a
main inspiration for this college-campus thriller that will serve as
director Olly Blackburn's follow-up to the incredibly vile Donkey Punch.
Getaway (2013)
Action
|
Crime
Brent Magna must get behind the wheel and follow the orders of a
mysterious man to save his kidnapped wife.
|
|
Add to Watchlist |
The Buzz: This premise makes me
wonder if Warner Bros. is trying to find the balance between a Jason
Statham movie and Ryan Gosling's arty and beloved Drive. Indie-horror
maverick Courtney Solomon, who runs After Dark Films, is at the helm.
And look at young Selena Gomez go; you have to admire her as she follows
a path to lead her out of tweendom and into a hopefully prolonged
career.
